Malcom Alexander Maddox

The Wizarding World:
Blood Status: Muggle-born
Affiliated With: Hogwarts, Order of the Phoenix
Wand: 11 1/2 inches, Chestnut, unicorn tail hair.
Patronus: Pallas's Cat
Teaching Subjects: Transfiguration

Appearance:
Mal likes to consider himself 'ruggedly handsome', but then again he is a bit narcissistic when it comes to his looks.
He prides himself in his hair, a milk-chocolatey brown color. He makes sure that it's well kept-- always parted and combed to near-perfection. His eyes are a dark green color, but it's hard to tell from far away. It's often assumed that he simply has brown eyes.
He's relatively tall, but there are some students that are taller than him. He stands at six feet exactly. He's definitely not the skinniest man in the world-- more meat on him than bone. He's got wide shoulders, and a bit barrel-chested.
He has a relatively rugged looking face. When he isn't at school, he tends to be a bit scruffy looking-- but when he's working, he is clean-shaven and dresses well.
Face Claim: Nathan Fillion
Personality:
Mal is aware his substantial intellect and charisma, and this fuels his healthy ego. This coupled with the less then warm social reception he received from his peers early on caused him to develop an over-friendly demeanour to help people see past his heritage. He hadn’t the time for those who could not recognize his fabulousness, and does not to this day. He is known to be rather outspoken when he is insulted, either by student or collegue. While generally a very relaxed professor, if you were to insult him or his topic, he by far hands out some of the worst detentions. He doesn't make much time for slack-offs, but doesn't care how well you do in his course, so long as you try.
He is vocal about his blood politics, finding magical heritage based discrimination an insult to his intellect and despicable on those basis alone. He is a formidable duellist and a competent on a broom, as Quiddich is one of the few things he really took to when first entering the magical community.
He writes short stories in his spare time-- transfiguration is only so interesting at times, and he needs a hobby to distract himself. He always is interested in learning new topics besides his own, especially ones he didn't focus on when in school.

History and Details:
Mal was born into a muggle family-- a logical yet reasonably loving one at that.
Both of his parents worked in 'logical' positions-- his mother an accountant, and his father an algebra teacher who had met in university. His older brother ended up going into science-- but Mal was slightly different. While he inherited that logical gene from his parents, he was more creative than his parents-- he read Shakespeare, wrote stories about imaginary places, preferred letters to numbers. His parents knew there was something a bit different about their son, but didn't think much of it, and encouraged his hobbies.
There was no magical background to his family, so when he recieved his letter, there was much confusion within his household. His parents simply dismissed as a joke, until he recieved a visit from Albus Dumbledore. Mal had been asked to leave the room when Dumbledore spoke to his parents, but was in awe by the man.
His parents were convinced-- though still extremely confused-- and allowed Mal to go to Hogwarts. Mal found it difficult to adjust to the Wizarding world. He was sorted into Hufflepuff, where he ended up making some life-long and close friends. He did relatively well in his classes once he finally did adjust to magical life, particularlly in charms and transfiguration.
When he graduated, he considered living as a muggle for a while-- spending time in London and writing as a profession. However, five years ago, he was approached by McGonagall after her replacement left due to personal issues. He was a bit reluctant at first, but decided to give the position a try-- figuring he could always leave if he so chose.
He found he truly enjoyed teaching-- it gave him some free time to do what he liked, but also let him help a new generation of students.
To be honest, I would like him to be involved with the Order, but I just haven't figured out how yet. When I do, I'll add it too his history. But until it's necessary to add it, this note will take its place.
Other:
Working with Professor McGonagall his seventh year, Mal started the registration process for becoming an animagus. He achieved this three years after graduating, and is now a registered animagus. He takes the form of a Pallas's Cat, which has the same eye color as him.
He has published two books-- one in the years between his graduation, and another two years ago while at Hogwarts. Both were science fiction novels aimed for muggle readers. Neither have been very successful.
