Aspen wondered up the steps to the Owl tower, she was going up here why? For a chance to be away from everything yes..she knew it was dangerous to come up, here especially considering everything that had been happening. All the people she knew, who weren't the ones to get involved in. She was involved in the death eaters up to her eye balls. She knew something was going to happen, and the best way to prevent those she loved from getting hurt was to push everyone away, everyone she cared about.
She ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. She wondered if in fact she was doing the right thing. She knew how dangerous it was up here. She climbed the stairs taking them carefully, before opening the door and sliding up the stairs, leading deeper into the wooden barn. She was going to check on Malafarious, see how her baby was doing good. She was qute the listen her, but she knew enough that she needed too.

Much to his dislike, Scorpius was stuck with Prefect duties on his first night back at Hogwarts. Luckily, he didn't have to stay out too late, but he did have the spent a couple hours doing rounds around the castle. Everybody knew that the first night back was when everyone tried to get away with everything; people out of their dormitories past curfew, wild parties, etc. And of course, the classic couple who thinks they can snog in a deserted corridor in the middle of the castle and not get caught. He felt like maybe he was being a bad Prefect at the moment; he wasn't looking for anything in particular, or really doing much at all. Scorpius had been roaming the castle for a while now, thinking about how he would so much rather be at a party, in the Common Room, or anywhere else but doing Prefect duties.
Aspen kept popping into his thoughts throughout the day. He wasn't going to lie; Scorpius was worried about her. There was definitely something off with his friend on the train. Something was definitely bothering her, and she seemed so anxious. He hadn't talked to her all night, though maybe that was because he was busy being a stupid Prefect. Or, maybe she was avoiding him. Scorpius knew Aspen well enough to be able to tell when something was bothering her, and Aspen knew that. He was willing to bet anything that she was off avoiding everyone because she didn't want to talk about it.
Then again, Scorpius had enough experience with girls - well, not a whole lot, but some...to know that whenever they said nothing was wrong, that usually meant something was definitely wrong, and they were just closing themselves off. But Scorpius knew that right now, all Aspen needed was a friend...someone who was willing to break through the walls she put up and try to help her. It was true that Aspen was always in some sort of trouble, but this time seemed different. This wasn't the usual kind of worry Scorpius felt for her; something bad was going on.
He thought he caught a glimpse of her hair turning around a corner about fifteen minutes ago. Scorpius had been on the seventh floor at the time, and it looked like Aspen was heading for the Owlery. He had been slowly walking there since he saw her, going back and forth in his head...Aspen obviously wanted time alone, but Scorpius really felt like that should talk. He just really hoped she wouldn't be angry with him. He climbed up the stairs to the Owlery quietly. When he got to the top, Aspen was standing on the other side of the room, facing away from him. Scorpius wasn't really sure what to say, but he thought a greeting might be a good start. "Aspen...hey," he said quietly, trying not to startle her with the sudden break in the silence.

Aspen had turned her head, brushing her fingers over Malafarious's head, and down her body. Her owl sat perched nicely on her arm. She was being well behavied and currently silent. She hooted, before turning her gaze to glance over at the door, before the voice that spoke, spooked her, and she twitched, her feathers ruffled up, making her look oh so intemidating, like a fluffed up cat.
Her free hand ran through her hair, twirling a strand of it around her finger. What was she doing here? she was simple spending some time by herself,, she wasn't avoiding anyone...well now that was a lie. She was in fact avoiding the two people she trusted more than her family. Albus and Scorpius she'd gone out of her way to avoid quite a few people. SHe had no want to talk to anyone, it required to much effert. She turned around, her gaze landing on Scorpius, in a smooth motion, she'd had her wand, taped at the very edge of her robe, she'd been ready to on edge. The tilted her hand back, slding the wand back up her sleeve. "Scorpious you scared me, what you doing up?" she questioned, giving in innocent loolk

Scorpius raised an eyebrow skeptically at his friend, then chuckled. "Come on, Aspen, don't play dumb. We both know you're smarter than that. I'm on Prefect duty tonight, like I told you on the train," he said as he walked further into the large, circular room towards her. He leaned against the wall a few feet away from Aspen, relaxing.
There was something about the way the dim evening light hit her hair that sparked something in Scorpius. He wasn't quite sure what it was. He had always though Aspen was beautiful, and that hadn't changed. But he was almost sure that his feelings for her had. He used to like her as more than a friend last year, but that faded over the summer. What he felt this way, the spark, was something different entirely. He thought it was love, but not romantic love. The kind you felt for a friend. It was a sort of protective urge that he was feeling because he knew something was wrong with Aspen, and he cared so much for her that he was almost desperate to do what he could to help.
"Is everything okay with you? You were acting a bit off on the train, almost as though you were tense or anxious about something. And I haven't even seen you since we got to the castle. It feels like you've been avoiding me or something..." he trailed off. His words we quieter and caring; it was obvious that the topic of conversation had switched to something more serious than how it started just minutes ago.

Aspen grinned slowly, she'd forgotten he was on perfect duties. "I know you have perfect duties, but what are you doing up here in the Owlry?(sp?)" she questioned, her fingers running over Malafarious's wings that stood haphazardly on her body. She'd been rather frightened. She cooed to her, telling her softly their was nothing to be worried about. The brown and black bird stared at the Malfoy with scathing look. She wasn't pleased with the scare.
She gazed around the room, before looking him in the eye, as she told him point blank what was on her mind. "I have been avoiding you" she said with a careless shrug of her shoulders, as her back straightened, as if she was going to do thing that was going to cause effert. Her voice had dropped the carefree-ness of it all, and had taken on the edge that she used normal when bad mouthing a teacher, or saying something snide to someone she didn't like. She didn't need him to care about her, it was better if he just forgot all about her, it was the the best. She needed to get read of him, get read of him and Albus.
As she got ready to spit out the words that would take him away from her, she couldn't do it. She sighed, closing her eyes tightly for a moment. "Sorry" she mumbled into the silence. "I'm just tired, and I'm not fond of the people my brother has been talking to lately that's all, it's some girl named Aria Avier" she said her free hand clenched, she looked for a several tense moments like she wanted to hit that said girl. She usually wouldn't bother, holding back on something she wanted to do. She wasn't sure what to say, she just turned her attention back to Malafarious, who has impatiently peaked at her hand to get her attention.

Scorpius shrugged, trying to play his journey up to the owlery like it was no big deal. "I dunno. I was walking around on patrol and I thought I saw you come up here, so I thought we could talk," he explained. He raised an eyebrow at Aspen's response, confused. She had answered his question about avoiding him, and she seemed like she had been honest about it. But that was what worried Scorpius; he was slightly offended at the fact that she didn't want to see him or talk to him. Had he done something wrong?
Trying to listen carefully, Scorpius took in every detail of Aspen's next words. Aria Avier? All Scorpius knew about her was that she was a Slytherin, in 7th year, and...well, if Hogwarts had Death Eaters, she would be one. That was just obvious, if one looked at the people Aria hung out with. Scorpius had learned the names of many of the old Death Eaters from talking with his father over the years, and Zabini, Lestrange, and Dolohov were all known supporters and followers. They weren't the type of people Scorpius would want to mess with.
"What happened? Did she say something to you? When did this start?" he asked. Scorpius didn't mean to send so many questions to her all at once, but now he was almost desperate for answers. He was worried, concerned, and maybe a little bit angry...all for the sake of one of his closest friends. All he wanted was more information. He was trying to get into Aspen's head and understand her, which wasn't exactly the easiest thing in the world to do.

She shook her head, tossing her hair back over her shoulders. Aspen turned her undivided attention back to her owl. "Alright, Alright" she murmered to her, as she reached out, and once again began stroking down her owl's back, before running over her head again. She thought of the best way to answer him. If he knew too much that could cause him problems.
"It's nothing important, he has just been talking with her. She isn't who he normally would hangout with that's all. I suppose he's just trying to be polite, I guess," she said, with a shrug. "It happened during the Summer, a few weeks before we started school. She'd sent him a letter. I didn't get to see what it read, but I know my brother can take care of himself," she said with a small grin.
She reached out her hand, holding it up for Malafarious to get on her perch if she so choose to do so. The brown and black owl didn't budge. She grinned slightly. "I guess it's back to the dorm with me than" she said with a wide grin. She was secretly pleased her owl wanted to be with her tonight. Tomorrow...well she'd find other ways to avoid being alone. She knew of a few people she could get some help with that from. She wouldn't be going to Scoripus, their relationship wasn't any farther than friends, and what good was he if he didn't know anything. Only a few people knew of the things that went bump in the night around here.

Scorpius just watched as Aspen gave her full attention to her owl. He felt a twinge of annoyance within him, pointing directly towards Aspen. The only reason he was here was because he noticed she was acting weird and was concerned about her. He was up here with her instead of doing his Prefect duties because he cared about her so much. And right now, it seemed that her biggest concern was that damn owl.
"That doesn't seem like such a big deal. If it's nothing important and your brother can take care of himself, what are you so worked up about? Come on Aspen, there's got to be more to it than that," Scorpius said reasonably. He wasn't trying to be forceful or even persuasive. All he wanted was for her to feel safe, to feel as though she had someone to talk to. He would always be there for her, and it frustrated him when she wouldn't open up.
"No, wait. Aspen please, can you just talk with me for a few minutes? I'm really worried about you and the way you're acting is just making it worse," he said, almost slightly desperate. He wanted to get to the bottom of this, or at least find out more than he already knew. There was obviously more going on around here that Aspen wasn't letting on about.

Hazel eyes stared at Scorpius. She didn't say anything for a moment, thinking of the best way to get out of this one, whether it be playing nice, or completely ignoring him. If she ignored him, he'd only press more, and it seemed she was acting strange. It seemed it was going to be needed that she act normal, and the best way to do that was acting. She didn't need them to be suspious anymore, if they continued they would surely lose.
"You shouldn't wonder these halls after dark Scorpius, this school isn't what it used to be, it's much much worse" she stated, already heading for the door. It was best to start their decent now, before they were missed, Scorpius would be missed quicker than she would. He didn't need to be in any more trouble.

Scorpius raised an eyebrow as Aspen stared at him, clearly deep in thought. He could tell that she was trying to make a difficult decision, but it was taking too long. She was being obvious, and he knew he was probably about to be lied to.
At her response, he just stared back at her, his mouth slightly open in shock and confusion. What? What the hell did that have to do with anything that they were talking about? "Um, actually Aspen, I'm the one here who's a prefect and has every right to be around the school at this time. You, on the other hand, would be in trouble if you weren't my best friend, because you shouldn't be out now," he said heatedly, trying to calm himself down so he didn't come off as angry. He sounded slightly annoyed.
"Come on, Aspen. You're killing me here, you keep dropping all these hints in front of my face about trouble going on with Aria and your brother, but you wont tell me what. And now the school is dangerous and worse than it used to be? Obviously there's something going on here that you're not telling me," he said quietly but in a serious way. He was sure of himself and standing his ground. Aspen had made it completely clear to him that there was something bad going on, and that she knew about it. But typical Aspen was involved in it someone, and now she was dropping hints but not telling Scorpius what was going on, which worried him out of his mind. Sometimes he wondered if she just did this sort of thing for attention; teasing him with information and then making him beg for it. Well, he wasn't going to put up with that anymore. They were too old for games like this, and Scorpius was worried that something truly serious was going on.

Aspen turned around to face him, her eyes darkening in anger. He just couldn't take a hint could he! Her hands clenched, geez he sure did make her want to punch him. He wasn't putting the pieces together. If she told him he'd be a target, if he wound up figuring this out on his own, maybe he'd get in touch with the good guys and stay away from the people like Aria, and Lastrange, and the others.
"Yes obviously there is" she shot back at him, her temper getting the better of her. "If you figure it out on your own maybe you can stop it, but you'll need help" she said, her hair whipping around her face, before blowing behind her. "The Slytherin's can't be trusted Malfoy, and it's up to you to figure out who can and who can't" she growled, her shoulders druping. "This isn't openly talked about, and the more you know, the more danger you will be in" she said softly, her voice dropping several notches. "I will not openly give you anything, Scorpius. The walls have ears and eyes. I suggest you don't go down any 'old' hallways, the 'secrets' you find won't be to your liking" she said, stressing the words old and secrets, hopefulliy he would put that together and figure out, where to not go in the middle of the night, going their wasn't the place to be, not if you wanted to live to see the light of dawn.

Scorpius had known Aspen for a long time, and right now it was so clear to him that he had pissed her off. She was glaring at him angrily, looking just as frustrated as he felt at that moment. It was as though she was trying her hardest to get a point across, but Scorpius just wasn't seeing it the way she meant for him to. He was trying, but Aspen hadn't given him much to work with.
"How can you expect me to figure this all out on my own when you're not giving me anything to work with? I'm TRYING to get help, from you, but you aren't telling me anything that's wrong!" he shot back at her, sounding frustrated but not angry. "After knowing everything that went on with my father before I was born, do you honestly think I don't know that? You can't trust anyone these days. But I would've thought that you would consider me one of the people that you CAN trust," he said, in a quieter tone but still with that hint of frustration. "I'm trying to help you," he muttered, slightly in annoyance.
Obviously, Aspen "knew" something. She had heard something she shouldn't have, and now she was scared to talk about it because of the potential dangers of...who? The Slytherins is what she said, but Scorpius assumed she meant Aria and her friends because Aspen had mentioned them before. He was trying to put the pieces together. Aria and her friends were dangerous. Aspen must have overheard something, and now she was worried that if she told someone about what she heard, they would do something bad to her. Scorpius thought it would be a bad idea to push Aspen for any more information.

Aspen clenched her teeth to keep herself from saying anything she might regret. Her frustration and anger at the whole situation was getting the better of her. Her anger was causing angry tears to fill her eyes. Was everything so far out her control, that she couldn't even protect her closet friends? She knew the truth it was best if he didn't trust her, and it would be even better if he and Albus stayed as far away from her as they could get.
She sucked in a breath, and turned her back on him, her arms wrapped tightly around her stomach, Malafarious had long since flown the coop, she'd landed back on her purch and watched with dark eyes as everything began to unfold around her. She blinked frustrated as tears slipped down her cheeks. "I can't help you" she whispered, her voice thick with her tears. She felt herself shaking slightly and did her best to stop it. "The more you know the more danger you will be in, it's not a good idea for you or Al to be around" she said stiffly, doing her best to get her emotions back under control. Her fingers reached up and whipped at her eyes. "Trust me" she said softly, her eyes gazing out the door, and then to the few windows in the area, it wasn't a good idea to be talking about this, and she knew it.

Aspen was on the verge of tears. It hurt Scorpius to see her like this. He couldn't figure out whether she was upset over the situation or just angry; it was hard to tell at this point, because he thought she was probably a little bit of both. He didn't know what to do.
She looked so uncomfortable and unsure of herself, her arms wrapped tightly around her as though she were in pain. Scorpius wanted to hug her and just make her feel better, but that didn't feel like the right thing to do at the moment, considering Aspen wasn't too happy with him.
"I get what you're saying...but I'm still worried. I'm not gonna try to get you to talk about this because you're obviously having a hard time with it," he told her, trying to sound understanding. "But really Aspen, if you need to talk to me or if there's anything I can do...you know I'll always be here for you," he said honestly, putting a hand lightly on her shoulder in an attempt to calm her down a little bit and make her feel better. As frustrated as Scorpius was at the moment, he still hated seeing Aspen upset. "Hey, we should go, it's getting kind of late and we have classes tomorrow," he said, officially giving up on this topic for now. He would have to try and find out what he could later, from other sources, if he could.
