Let’s be honest: Quidditch, while being so big at Hogwarts, is a dangerous sport. According to the Weasley Twins in the first book, no one at Hogwarts has ever died during a game—a few disappearances here and there, but never an actual death. But who is to say that is an all that accurate statement? After all, bitter house rivalries and the competitive nature of the sport could lead to foul play, couldn’t it? Meet William Cooper, the Quidditch Pitch Ghost. He appears to the Quidditch players as a relatively friendly ghost, giving Quidditch advice to the younger students and innocent stuff like that. However, every once and a while a bludger will go a little too far—limbs break, students fall of their brooms, but the staff simply dismisses it. Quidditch, after all, is a dangerous sport. No one would suspect the polite and encouraging ghost of William Cooper. But then again, no one can really remember how exactly William Cooper came to haunt the Quidditch Pitch. If asked, he tells a tragic story of a rival Quidditch team rigging explosive bludgers. Never meant to do too much damage, just knock opposing players of their brooms with an extra kick. But the scorched broom that Cooper carries around with him tells a different story. But that wasn’t really the case. William Cooper wasn’t really the innocent victim, but rather a scorpion stung by his own tail. He was the one who rigged those bludgers, which only ended up killing him in the match they were used. He is a malicious spirit, though his outward appearance suggests otherwise. Nearly all Quidditch accidents are his doing, wanting others to suffer the way that he suffered—his mentality twisted after dying. - I imagine he’d be a Slytherin, but tells most people he was in Gryffindor.
- The name is simply a suggestion. The playby, though, I do like. [Ben Barnes]
- Some of you might be a bit uneasy about taking up a Ghost character, but they are a lot of fun. He isn’t simply confined to the Quidditch field either, so he can interact with other students and such.
