Layla noticed vaguely that Angelo was leaving the table, she waved around at him, as she'd see him later in their classes. Her mind was off on other matters now, thinking of people she hadn't talked to yet, a particular boy on her mind, along with her best friend as she ate her whipped cream. She couldn’t wait for mail to arrive; maybe she’d get a letter. She wondered when the astronomy class would be, it was her favorite by far, as she could gaze up at the sky without people mocking her about it. And there were so many things to learn about the sky...
She nearly jumped out of her skin as a soft whisper on her ear, the voice of the very man part of her mind had been thinking of. She swallowed the spoonful of whipped cream and smiled widely. "Oh… Oh wow, Thank you." she said, her voice dreamy as ever, but cheery and surprised as well, and her eyes widening a little more, as she looked around a bit. She was a bit shy about the endearment he used, but it felt quite nice to have his attention on her. Her eyes finally focused back on him, as he sat down next to Jay. "It's lovely to see you again. You look good yourself, Sophocles. I’m so looking forward to class, you know." she said, drifting off a bit. She registered the smell of cigarettes that he always carried, which she had ended up liking after a while.

Lacey smiled, chuckling to herself at Jay’s comment. “Well of course you haven’t, darling. But there are more than a few girls who have. And some lads as well, as you know.” She glanced down the table, waving as Angelo left the table. He was a nice boy, that Angie, she thought vaguely, and quite an interesting fellow with the rest of the boys inside of him. She smirked, noting for later that she would have to know him a little better if she was to meet him at a party sometime soon.
“And as for your opinion on Allen,” she added, turning back to Jay, tapping her fingers against the table. “Obviously the boy doesn’t have your wonderful personality and such. But some girls get what they can…” she trailed off as the smell of smoke lingered in the air. Tilting her head to the side, she smiled as Sophocles made his presence known, though he greeted Layla first. The girl did deserve a handsome boy like Soph, but Lacey wasn’t exactly thrilled about being greeted after the other girl. However, when it was her turn to be greeted, she hid her disdain.
“Good morning, Soph.” she said with a sweet smile, turning from one boy to the other, settling for a moment to meet Sophocles’ appraising stare. He was a strange boy—not so much as perhaps Angelo, but strange nonetheless. Still, there was something about him…

Jay chuckled appreciatively at Lacey's comment, "They've all been happy afterwards, supposedly. But I'm not lucky enough to join in their ranks. Maybe after some more booze..." He heard the sound of a chair squeak as Angelo stood up to leave, but didn't react to the boy leaving. The boy was just that, a housemate whom he felt no connection to, unlike Soph or one of the others that he had tried to shape in his image.
"It's hard to have my personality, love," he said, with an appreciative sigh, "but maybe he'll learn in time. Or Rose'll dump him heartlessly like the others." He knew much about her plethora of breakups, and could easily imagine her crushing him. Allen was weak, he wouldn't last long in the face of adversity. He noticed that her focus had shifted to a boy walking over to them, and the moment that he recognized the features, his face broke out in an uncharacteristic grin.
Putting on his best falsetto, he batted his eyelashes, "Oh Soph! How I've missed your lovely presence!" Laughing, he broke character. "Man, you must have been with some amazing chick to miss seeing me on our first night back. I'm impressed." Accepting his apology glance, his eyes did their best to show forgiveness. It was impossible to be mad at Soph. for him, at least. To the gesture made by his head, Jay chuckled, rolling his eyes slightly, as if to say, "Robbing the cradle, much? You can do a hell of a lot better."
It was true, young Soph was turning into a stud, thanks to his hard work. He realized that he should mention his exploits with Roxanne to him, but didn't feel like explaining it with so many people around. After all, he'd barely seen Roxanne today--only glimpsing slight bits of her from her spot at the Gryffindor table, where she was hopefully covering for the two of them. He realized that he should probably talk to Gia about it, but at that moment, he just wanted to chill where he was. It would all work out in the end, it always did for him.

The boy nodded absently to the words of the girl, his mind reflecting her dreamy tone, though he was still far too cheery to react negatively to her. His thumbs tapped thoughtlessly at his robes as he enjoyed her gaze. It fed to the confidence he'd developed, a small smirk resisted coming to his lips because he knew there was truth in her words, somewhere at least. The Ravenclaw gave one last dismissive look, flashing a devilish smile to her, his eyebrows lifting almost imperceptibly. Sophocles had few doubts that she would notice.
His gaze drifted back to Lacey, who had greeted him with a smile which he returned easily. The younger girl was more fun to toy with, she was far less innocent than Layla. He shifted slightly, gathering a plate and arranging waffles, eyeing whipped cream but instead pouring himself some cold apple juice. In the morning, his food was most often arranged by heat and its soothing properties on his throat rather than taste. Picking up a fork, he took a mouthful of waffles, dry, only to nearly choke on them when his ears were assaulted with the strident tone of his friend's reply.
Regaining his breath, his grin found its way to his amused face. He could think of no smooth way to pretend he hadn't, so he merely listened to his friend behind a small snicker. "I wasn't invited to the Gryffie party, Jay." He said, his elbow lifting to the table so he could rest his face on his palm. "And everyone needs a rest every once in a while." Sophocles considered using the word 'bangover' but skillfully avoided it because of their feminine company. The boy rolled his eyes, grateful, but challenging of Jay's his decision regarding the younger Ravenclaw. He had enough fun in his exploits, and besides, he countered with playfully narrowing eyes, she was only a year under him.
Taking a slow sip of his apple juice, he briefly paused, his eyes sliding shut with the basic comfort. He took another quicker gulp before he looked up at his friend. "And your company and luck was better than mine?" He asked in a teasing undertone. He didn't really have any desire to pry, but he would feel significantly better if his 'mentor' had been equally unsuccessful. Peering absently to the ceiling, he looked down quickly as he caught the most intense of the sun's light at once. "Must've been interesting though, I haven't seen hangovers this impressive for a while."

No more of Sophocles' words were directed towards Layla, instead she received a nod, that came with a smirk. The bright, probably silly looking smile spread on her lips as he cast one last look at her, with a mischievous grin with a small raise of his eyebrow. That last part made her look away, her wide eyes drawing a small semi-circle downwards to look away. "Wow..." she whispered in her dreamy voice. Layla noticed that kind of small gestures in everyone, it was interesting to see it, and people hardly if ever noticed making them. She wondered vaguely if he did.
Part of her mind remained focused on the older boy's actions, noticing a few exchanges between him and Jay about the party and Sophocles almost choking on waffles. The rest was distracted by the mail arriving, making her gaze upwards distractedly watching the birds fly all over the Great Hall. She didn't get anything that morning, not that she'd been expecting something, but it was always fun to get something at breakfast.
Schedules were being handed out, and Layla got hers quickly enough. She skimmed through it, her eyes wide as before, but the big smile replaced by a slightly open mouth. She remained in that possition for a bit more than necessary, not something unusual of her, before standing up and putting it in her pocket. "I gotta go, I'll see you around, everyone." she said, smiling up again at everyone with wide eyes, which remained for a couple blinks more on Sophocles than anyone else. "I have to get what I forgot from the dorm now, or I'll be totally late." she added, turning around and leaving in a hurry as she finished her sentence.

At Soph's confession, Jay burst out laughing before he could even attempt to stop himself. The boy wasn't as much of a stud as he pretended to be, which, in retrospect was good. It wasn't really like he wanted to share his title as "Ravenclaw's Biggest Stud", which he was pretty sure /was/ his unofficial title. If it wasn't, it really should have been. People needed to get on that. As Layla rushed out, Jay rolled his eyes slightly. Yes, she was a fellow housemate, but somehow she'd sunken her teeth into Soph, which was never a good sign.
"So, wait, you seriously weren't invited?" He said, adding a small snicker to the end of the phrase. "You should have crashed, then, it was a fuc**** trip, man." Clearly, his "rest" had involved some sort of a girl, or at least, he would pretend that it would. There was no point in messing around with the younger boy, he tended to frequently miss the point.
Raising his eyebrows, he didn't bother to keep their silent conversation silent now that Layla was gone. Lacey would be unfazed by it anyway. "Well, you've lost your touch, man. Next thing you know, you'll be hanging with the fourth years!" He paused, then added, "Come to think of it, I'm a year older than you, and now I'm slightly embarrassed to be around you." He chuckled, implying that he was joking, although he was worried that his friend was slowly losing his mind.
He smiled, tilting his chin upwards slightly, "It absolutely was." He decided it was better not to go into specifics, as he was already torn between Gia & Roxanne, and didn't want Soph knowing the details. It could have easily gotten to Layla, who would tell her gossipy friend, who would tell the entire school. For once, there was something going on that he didn't want spread to the entire school, so he kept silent, keeping a smug smile on his face.

Sophocles frowned, finally succumbing to the temptation to use the frothy warmed butter the house elves had carefully made by hand. Pouring it over his waffles, his hands busied themselves with cutting so he wouldn't punch his friend. Of course, the playful gesture would've been accepted but he needed to eat quickly with the time he'd missed before. "Shut it." He said, his eyebrows raised as he fought back an embarrassed smile. "Besides, I have some... things going on and it'll have been better that I didn't go." The brunet smirked at this, his coltish look suggesting that his intent was something that he'd probably tell Jay but his suggestiveness would definitely be more fun. It wasn't certain enough to brag about yet, anyhow, and he didn't need another thing that Jay would never let him forget.
Stretching his arms, he placed them behind his head, a confident look passing his features as he listened to Jay as his eyes lazily drifted to the retreating form of Miss Turner. His grin slacked as he was chastised. "Oh, come on. You know I love to play around." the sixth-year muttered, his smile returning as his eyes slid shut. "She's younger and is easier to play with." At his last statement, Sophocles jerked forward quickly, "'S nothing serious though." The boy viewed it as an extended game. If it amused him, why stop for mere appearance sake? Besides, too many in this school were too slow to understand each move he made.
Pushing his fork on his plate, Sophocles stabbed a piece and brought it to his mouth as he chewed thoughtfully. "Besides, man, you spend time with me and-" He said, folding his arms, putting on a serious look, "I won't even put out." His face broke into a grin, unable to keep up his act, though this face creased slightly. Pausing at the tease, he pondered what disturbed him more about that statement, comparing himself to a girl or the suggestion that he'd care whether or not his relationship with Turner would turn into that. His lips sealed uncomfortably, feeling like a cat who wouldn't know what to do if he'd caught his prey. Shrugging, he figured he'd have plenty of ideas when whatever happened did, and she wasn't horrible.
Peering to the rather pleased expression his friend wore, Soph raised a skeptical eyebrow. Though he didn't doubt that his night had been eventful, he couldn't allow his ego to be stroked any more than it needed to be. "And who do we owe this lovely mood to?" He questioned knowingly. Though Jay was difficult to find at night, he seemed much more pleased than he'd usually be. He only gave a brief smirk before continuing his meal.
