Orion Coeus Malfoy
14, Slytherin, 4th Year
Basics:
Full Name: Orion Coeus Malfoy
Nickname(s): None
DoB: July 21, 2008
Sexuality: Homosexual. This is a hard secret to rouse from him, though, and he is very much in denial. He intends to have a family with a woman who he will only choose with his future son in mind. In Hogwarts, he intends to put up a guise about this as well.
The Wizarding World:
Blood Status: Pureblood
Affiliated With: The Malfoy and Greengrass family, will have a tendency to lean toward dark arts.
Wand: Cypress and dragon heartstring, 13 inches precisely. Good for transfiguration (and the Dark Arts)
Dragon heartstring is a powerful wand with a lot of magical “heft”. It is not the core you want for subtlety, but for sheer power it is definitely the best. Cypress has a strong affiliation with the Gods, mostly Hades. Fitting for a boy who takes his name from two of them.
Pet: White gyrfalcon, Antioch
Appearance:
Hair: Platinum blonde like his father and siblings. It is very smooth and often slicked with something to make sure stray hairs do not fall into his eyes. Unlike his father, his hair falls around his shoulders when unbound, which it hardly ever is. He often ties it with a silver and green ribbon.
Eyes: His eyes are almond shaped and a deviation from his father’s and brothers that he does not much appreciate. Orion has green eyes from his mother’s side, though abnormal green appears to dominate the pale gray of the men of his family. They are deep-set, which will give a mildly ominous feel when he gets older.
Face: Very much thin and pointed, appearing more so because of the way his hair is pulled back. Thin lips and pale skin give him an appearance that he connects to his family. Currently, his face is rather short and makes him looks a slightly younger than he is. Orion tries to combat this with his personality.
Body, include weight and height: Thin and rather short for his age at 58 inches. He weighs somewhere around 87 lbs, but not a lot more. He is not going to hit any sort of growth spurt for a year, regardless of his hoping, and will remain a head under his “competition” for a while.
Face Claim: Boyd Holbrook
Other: Orion relishes in his “Malfoy” appearance, though not appreciating his deviation in height and eye-colour.

Personality:
The boy is similar to his father at his age, though his vindictive thoughts are usually personal. He is aware of his need to strengthen the family name, but does not fully understand it. Orion believes in the superiority of blood and is highly tuned to the feeling of justice. His mind is highly logical, though anger is quick to break this. He holds the strong clever mind of his father, and eagerly takes to pursuits of logic for practical means. Will duel when sure of victory, but is very careful to never appear on the wrong side of authority, though he is comfortable breaking it.
Orion is one for sharp wit and action, and though he is very good at making long term plots he often gets flustered when confronted with things he does not expect. He is much more protective than his father was at Hogwarts, wanting to carry an easy dominance but often finding it beyond him when students don’t participate or he doesn’t seem as commanding as he needs to be. He really is lonely, but won’t let anyone other than his father or brother in willingly. If they do he really is a young boy who is very careful, and quick to become cold if the wrong thing is said out of protection of his family. He is selfish in the name of his family. He really wants a semi-average life but does want some form of power. He loves excelling at things and often becomes frustrated with himself when he’s unable to do something, and fears its reflection on his reputation. He often practices things alone to appear intelligent in front of others.
He holds a strong sense of tradition, conflicted in a modern world. He also has the frustration of few "understanding" him, and knows that he is also very subject to human emotion, though he does not fully accept it himself. He is also struck about his orientation, which he is in semi-denial about and any negative thoughts will lead to some sort of distraction, whether it is positive or negative. Orion carries the appearance of seriousness and the world being held on his shoulders, though he is childish in his reverence and dependence on his brother, as well as seeking constant approval from his father. He will later discover fascination with Dark Arts and a talent for it. The reverence and power that such forbidden fruits produce leaves him a willing “Eve”.
Likes:
- Falconry (He has a white gyr, Antioch. He’s had a litany of birds, but at home is Galamiel, a Harris Hawk who has become rather fond of him but wasn’t the one he chose because he had a habit of attacking birds and people)
- Tradition (He is careful to wonder how his ancestors would’ve done something, and he is very careful to weigh his decisions about anything on familial and traditional approval)
- Loyalty(Treason is the highest crime, above weakness or even murder. These bonds are only broken by cowards, and it is never acceptable.
- Praise (Especially from his father or brother)
- Quiddich, especially the Falmouth Falcons (Which he has the utmost desire to be a seeker in, but cannot admit to anyone. Their motto, “Let us win, but if we cannot win, let us break a few heads” gets a chuckle out of him every time. )
- Practical Magic(The more impressive or geared towards dueling, the better!)
- Language (Latin, Italian, and French)
- DADA and Transfiguration (It feels very natural to him and he holds a high reverence for each subject, mostly the former. The swelling feeling of power doesn’t make him feel insignificant, but rather privileged to control.)
- The smell of old parchment
- Familial history (The power of his blood, pure, can be traced through centuries. He reads about it as constantly as possible, starting from the back and working his way toward the present day, though his father holds little books or record starting from Abraxas Malfoy.)
Dislikes:
- Mixed blood (He holds the strong belief of superiority of blood, not that muddied blood needs to be eradicated, but it does need to know its place)
- Anyone who shows disdain for him (Real or imagined, he’s very sensitive to insults. The most piercing are those of family and, Merlin forbid, orientation.)
- Clingy girls (He tends to seek male company and has developed a weird prickliness for girls in pretending he likes them. It’s nothing personal, girls, really…)
- Incompetence (If there is a problem, it needs to be fixed. If you can’t, then Orion sees you as broken.)
- The Hogwarts suits of armour (The fact that they move creeps him out beyond belief. He has some irrational fear that something is inside of one of the suits at night, and hates nighttime ventures for that reason.)
- Dancing (Regardless of all dancing lessons, it takes way too much concentration to look semi-competent on the dance floor. He’s also gone through the humiliation of having to dance in a female role because of his height.)
- Failure (His failure is something he is constantly afraid of. He can’t tolerate it and will generally distract himself so he doesn’t keep trying and failing again and again. Depending on the level of the blunder, he will handle it with skill… or not.)
- Rejection
- Flowers (They remind him of fleeting beauty and how the strength of a powerful gesture can die quickly. He also has the tendency to fall into sneezing or allergies)
- Potions (He doesn’t seem to carry any reverence for the art and often tries to rush things, resulting in failure when brewing things. He’s associated the failure with the subject itself, and is very upset about his weakness in the subject.)
Family:First and Last Name, muggle or witch/wizard, occupation
Mother: Astoria Malfoy (Formerly Greengrass), Witch, Department of International Magical Cooperation
Father: Draco Malfoy, Wizard, Ministry of Magic Employee
Siblings: Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy
Others (list):
Daphne Greengrass, aunt
Lucius Malfoy, grandfather
Narcissa Malfoy, grandmotherHistory and Details:
The Malfoys, as they always have been, were privileged. Even after the war and reparations, they had the money and the strength of tradition to raise their children as the generation before had. Draco and Astoria were careful, yes, preparing their children for the world ahead of them but they still spoke careful words that would be unfit for public ears.
Orion has been a willing sponge, a later child and eager for his father’s appreciation. He was told, of course, of the war but did not have a strong grasp of the terror. He knew his father as an authority that was strong, just, and a provider of strength and fame that he could only look up to with starry eyes. Classical pursuits like falconry and history seemed to fit very well with the boy and he loved his father.
His mother, though, he was less fond of. It was not a sense of true dislike, he just did not relate with her or feel the need to impress her like he did Draco (who he would call nothing but “Father”). Orion was curt, but never close to his mother and was afraid of either being treated softly or having to submit to a girl or someone less than the lead of the household. Orion often tagged after his father, reveling in stories which varied in subject from mythology to his Quiddich.
The boy became careful after stern reprimanding, but callous after the first negative connection between him and his father. People were apt to assume that his line was marred or disgraceful, and he hated them. Anyone who vilified his Father who had served as he was supposed to and survived among many great presences… deserved nothing. Orion loved his father dearly, and his brother too, right after his father.
Orion followed his brother in a different way. Scorpius was a typical older brother. He was a sense of fun and rebellion, and worth tagging after when father was busy. He had lessons, but was not to be followed completely. After all, he was still not grown-up either.
Throughout his life Orion never got the strong feeling of how affection was played out. His mother and father were quite proper, and Orion never got any ideas from him. He wasn’t very fond of the muggle tele and his company was very much in his age group. When he discovered feelings of attraction towards a boy his age he thought it was mere admiration. Orion loved being around the other boy, and being near him and any physical contact though it didn’t feel like he was supposed to do it.
When he discovered his true orientation he was no less than horrified, locking himself up in his room and crying like the woman he was. He often cried and blocked it out, any feelings that hinted toward that direction were controlled by distracting himself or if the feeling is prevalent enough, punishing himself. The punishment is often more physical than mental, though it does nothing for his delicate self esteem.
Hogwarts could not come a day too soon. He grew tired of bidding his brother goodbye for another year of study at the Manor. It grew tiresome, but for his final year he threw himself into study and would spend extended periods by himself to prepare for his first day. Orion achieved his first goal, being in Slytherin quite easily, being very driven by ambition. Anything else, he figures, will come if he wants it enough. His other goals were reached for slowly, carefully, until he secured himself at the school he was so starry-eyed about in his youth. He became more sure, more clever, but still childish in his susceptibility to anger and naïveté have not completely left him. In hard work and padding (now carefully) after his brother, he intends to pave out a smooth future for himself. Dark arts and diaries, however, weren’t part of the plan.Other:
Loves his brother dearly, but doesn’t take after him in his avoidance of the archetypal Slytherin role. He doesn’t understand it, but doesn’t question his older brother in fear of being scolded. He figures he’ll show his brother with time.
His closest friends are probably his birds, Antioch especially being a bit fonder of him than gyrfalcons are apt to be.
Orion will work toward being an anamagi with his strong interest in transfiguration. If accomplished, it will be a lynx.
Patronus is not accomplished until adult life, when it takes the form of a serval.
He is moving toward the career of a curse-breaker or Mediwizard, though his father is pressing him to become a Healer. Secretly, his dream is to be a Quiddich star (a Chaser) on his favourite team.
Uses very formal diction when calm, "Mother, father, etc." but has a horrible mouth when angered.Role-playing Sample:
To the Hogwarts Express for the first time, and a door charmed for secrecy!
The boy had stood, stiff in Muggle clothes, next to his father and brother. The youth was not particularly noticeable among his family, all members towering above him in age, though the boy stood stiff and did not childishly try to make himself look larger by standing on the tips of shiny black shoes. His expression was muted behind green eyes; lungs working furiously for what he tried to pretend was the smoke of the scarlet train.
A slight shiver passed through him unrelated to the September chill, and his somber expression broke to one of embarrassment for only a moment before he trailed after his brother, thankful his goodbyes had already been said and his back was to Draco. He nipped at the heels of his sibling, perhaps too close, the familial connection was unmistakable.
Orion Coeus Malfoy looked as if the sun were foreign to him, his pointed face and crisp features complimented his platinum hair well, which was confined to a pony-tail and barely brushed his shoulders unbound. This was one of the things that separated him from his brother and father, along with his stature and green eyes, but Orion was careful to keep the separation at that.
He did not ask for assistance from his brother as he struggled (non-visibly) with his trunk and a rather annoyed falcon that flapped its wings irritably at the loud noises as he entered the train. Hearing some jeer, the boy turned to face his opponent, suddenly indignant, just because those classless individuals probably favoured owls and they (with their muddy backgrounds) probably didn't even know it was a white gyr; he could devour their stupid "pygmy puffs" in seconds.
Huffing and quite subject to his father's temper, he realised that he'd lost Scopius and his heart sunk. His posture immediately stiffened as someone shoved him from behind, urging him to move. "Shove-it!" The voice said, though Orion mostly disregarded it. Slipping his fingers into his pocket, his fingers tightened on his wand, cypress and dragon heartstring, he recited in his mind. Fitting, a wand associated with the gods. It warmed his fingers. "Scopius," he called, shuffling past full compartments, "Brot-" His eyes narrowed upon a girl and his brother, and he reached for the handle of the compartment before recoiling like a snake. He hissed and gave a few words he wasn't proud of, his hand clutched between his legs, which was surprisingly unhelpful. "SCORPIUS!" He shouted, his eyes shutting to defy tears. With what he was sure were too many eyes fixed upon him, helpless, he could do nothing but call his brother's name again. You:

How long have your been role-playing? Five years, though I definitely haven’t’ been doing it well for that long. - Potions (He doesn’t seem to carry any reverence for the art and often tries to rush things, resulting in failure when brewing things. He’s associated the failure with the subject itself, and is very upset about his weakness in the subject.)
