So, we've finally come up with a plot for the Order. We needed something to motivate the to-be-members, so they would make the Hogwarts Order right away.
We thought that when the Death Eaters are going over their diary, they come across a curse, and accidently or on purpose set it off. It causes emotional pain for other people at Hogwarts; first muggle-borns, then half-bloods, and maybe even blood traitors if it goes that far. We thought this would be better than a physical illness, because we don't want our characters to be all tied up in the Hospital Wing for the role-play.
So now that a bunch of students are being infected/cursed with this, they're having visions/dreams of things that cause pain to them, or make them hurt emotionally, such as bad things that happen to their family/friends/themselves, kind of like a Boggart, but it's in your head.
This is sort of the motivation for the to-be-Order, led by James Potter. They figure that muggle-borns are being targetted with this, so it must be the Death Eaters who are behind it. And who better to stop the Student Death Eaters than a Student Order? That's their logic, so they recreate their own Order/DA within the school to get the DE's to stop the curse.
It's more complicated than that, because the Order doesn't know about the diary. All they know at first is that they suspect the attacks/infection is from the Death Eaters. So to start, the Order is going to investigate. They'll be spying on the obvious DE's, trying to figure out what they're up to and how they're making all this happen. Maybe they'll try to get some of the neutral people to act as double agents, and go try to pry some information out of the DE's about all this.
Please let me know what you all thing. Weredragon, Jon, and I came up with this tonight when we were brainstorming in the cbox, but we wanna know what everyone else thinks. Let me know if you have anything to add to this, or if you wanna change something, or if you have any specific involvement in this plot with your character.

This. Is. Intense. For the lack of a better word. xD
Have you guys decided on a incantation, and who is casting the spell? Is it a ritual? Do they need to sacrifice something? Because this sounds like a big spell that the old DE invented, and would take more than just a few chanted words.
Thankfully, this also gives me a proper opening if I ever wish to do the 3-subject prof, or more specifically, the Ancient Runes position. Obviously, someone will end up researching for a solution to possible spells/rituals (Hermione: HEY!), and a possible though temporary one would be a ward. Because most of the Student Order would be made up of halfbloods and muggleborns.
Blood traitors would be harder for the magic to track - I believe this is a blood based spell, so during the casting some actual blood would be required. The targets of the spell would most likely have a background with non-magical blood, say, 2 generations back? Or 3 if that's not enough to cover most of our halfbloods here.
This is a really good idea you guys came up with. I honestly hope this works out.
I have an outline of how the spell is cast. xD If you'd like me to try the reversal, I'm up for it. xD
DEs find spell, are intrigued. Spell requires the willingly given blood of a non-squib pureblood (at least 4 generations of non-muggle), and unwillingly given blood of a muggle or muggleborn. Casting requires runic circle, e.g. chalk, stone runes, candle, etc.
Requires two pureblood casters, both male (this so you get ...conflict, between Shayne and Quin xD). Say a few words to each other (the spell, part 1), point wands at the two bowls of blood (the magically weaker of the two males have to point at the muggle/born one) and chant a few more words (the spell, part 2). The magic will be brown-ish red (so, like maroon), and the boys will have to give up enough magic to cause both to faint at the end of the ritual (key the two girls outside of the circle panicking, because this wasn't written in the diary). The boys will not be able to do magic above First Year skill and power because of drain - this will force them to go to the Hospital Wing for a day. THERE MUST BE A CONSEQUENCE RAWR!
The blood must dissolve into the magic (xDD that makes no sense logically) and the magic will go around the vicinity of, say, 25km? in radius from the point where the runic circle was made. And of course, latch onto each wizard and witch and infect them, whether or not they are pureblood or not. If they are, they will be immunized. If not, depending on how much muggle-blood they have into their background (like I said before, the 2 generations back), the muggleborns are affected first, say a week after the spell was originally cast. After two weeks since casting, quarter-bloods start feeling the effects. At three weeks, halfbloods start. And so on and so forth.
I put WAY too much thought into this. xD But yes, I am developing a reversal right now. Uhh, the incantation does not exist at the moment for either of them. And the details of the emotional pain you guys should work out...xD
(I am not actually fishing for a role as A/AR/D prof. xD This is how I believe the spell would actually work. The fact that it requires AR knowledge, so the four asking for the prof's help subtly, is just a bonus. xD)
Like? xD Admins? Shayne and Quin? Order peoples? xDD

Hmmm, it's not a bad idea, but I was sort of picturing it like an accident. Like, they knew something bad was going to happen, but they had no idea what exactly would happen.
I just had a thought, what if the curse wasn't exactly in the diary, but the diary SUGGESTED that there's a book in the library (Restricted Section, of course) that would "take care of" muggleborns...that would make the DE's interested. And assuming whoever wrote the diary did NOT use this curse at Hogwarts when they were there...why would they write all the details on the curse in the diary? It makes more sense for it to be something they came across in a Dark Arts book in the library, and just wrote it down just in case, and then never needed it.
I think the exact details for the ritual are a little bit...overdone? xD It just seems slightly out there that these Slytherins would be performing evil rituals like this with blood bowls and all that. Especially if we want this to be somewhat accidental.

Above you said accidentally or on purpose, so I stuck with the on purpose because I can't really think that 4 seventh years would 'accidentally' set off a spell. They could still have the details of how to do the curse/spell, but have no idea what the spell would do (because, for example, the diary got cut off or something).
I don't think that the Hogwarts library would have something of that calibre, seeing how the intention of the spell is, you know, almost evil. xD Even in the Restricted Section. I would think that after the war someone cleaned out the library so nothing this extreme would find its way to blood purists' hands. The Restricted Section mostly has old books, such as The Magick Moste Evile (or something like that), and would not be updated to deal with huge numbers of muggleborns and halfbloods.
I also think that the old DEs were the ones who invented this spell/ritual, and just never got to try it out. xD The idea was to harm the muggleborns and half-bloods, after all. Putting them out of commission. And if they invented the spell, and the fact that they never got to try it (or, they did but it didn't work and the notes in the diary were the final copy that they never got to use) would explain why it was never used during the war.
I believe this spell, with all of its affecting the emotions of muggleborns and halfbloods, would have definitely been used in the war. I don't think the writing it down and never needing it fits, especially with the effects you described the spell would have. The spell would have been useful because it would have played havoc upon people's fear and loss, because they were in the middle of a war where people were dying and disappearing left and right. And the Ministry was infiltrated, so distrust. The Order and their side of the war would never had won if this spell was in use. It is too powerful and effective for the old DEs NOT to use it, and thus they were probably working out the details and someone wrote the final copy, the finished product, down, and then the DEs lost the war.
I got carried away with my ritual thingy description, I know. xD I enjoy this too much. The bowls of blood...well, it could be vials, but mostly with rituals and long incantations they have bowls. xD I didn't think you would really make this spell accidental, considering the points I said before.

Hmm, all good points. So they ARE doing it on purpose, but do they know exactly WHAT they're doing? I'm not sure if it would actually say that in the diary. But I think you're right that they would have a final copy in the diary itself, your story makes sense about how they lost the war before they could use it.
And I'm sure our DE's would love that...since they're trying to bring the DE's back to power, they'd go crazy over an old spell that the old DE's never got to use...it's really like picking it right up where they left off.
I'm still a little concerned about the ritual thing, just because, well...where are they planning on doing this? I'm picturing your ritual to be some big thing that takes up time and has different materials and such, but it's a bit complicated. Like, where are they getting all this blood, the mudblood blood? (Blood blood, hehe.) I guess I would assume the RoR is the only safe place, but I dont think they would risk bringing all this blood and bowls and such out in the open to get it TO the RoR. I think a complicated spell or incantion, maybe one that takes more than one person to perform, is a little bit more possible and believeable than a whole ritual type thing.

They are doing it on purpose, and they know what they are doing, but not what the final result would be after doing the spell (cue the girls being shocked when the magic latches onto them and the boys as well).
I don't know your definition of a complicated spell. To me, it would just have more words and fancy wand and hand motions. xD A ritual is just chalk, runes, candles, and this one (is not a big ritual) would just add bowls to the picture. The RoR is capable of providing those items, except for the runes. It is not that time consuming, just putting the things together, drawing the circle, putting the blood in place and getting the boys to co-operate. xD And then the actual incantation. And about a day for the boys to recover from using so much magic.
The blood we can poke Aisu, since Weredragon could get action for that with both Aisu and Aria. And I guess the amount of blood would be able to affect the distance covered, so with like a medium-sized vial, they could cover three-quarters of Hogwarts. And a large vial, Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, even. D'uhh, we should run this through WD. xD
If you want, we can move from the RoR to Myrtle's washroom. xDDD Okay, no, joking.

You're very excited about this xD I guess I don't have an issue with it, except for the fact that you seem to know a lot more about this than anyone else, and Albus isn't involved so...none of the people who are role-playing the scene really have any idea how to do any of this, so we'd need your help.

I'm dancing in my seat, and it's totally not because I have wizarding rock playing in the background. Okay, maybe a little, but mostly this. xD When we get there, or a bit before that, I'll send the characters PMs detailing the spell/ritual. I guess I pull out some latin and runes, too. -is excited- I'm assuming that the incantation in the diary was written in runes/latin. I'm looking into creating another character, the 3-subject Prof? She (I've decided) teaches three of the four AR, two in Divination, and two in Arithmancy. xD She has a role now I AM PROUD YES and she teaches rituals in their year, I guess. (-laugh- they're doing a research project!) I can't think of anything else to say regarding the plot right now, so...Yeah. Oh wait, could you detail tell me what you wanted the result of the spell to be? I just know that it causes emotional pain, and its an infection from the magic that they cast. I don't know how you want the emotional pain to appear as exactly, when it would hit, etc. Or if something triggers it, for example, so that it isn't after a week, all the muggleborns are clutching their heads. ;; And how the Order is going to deal with the thing, if they are looking more for finding out who did it, and trying to make them stop it only to find out that they don't know how to; or, they do that and have someone researching possibilities while they are trying to find out what is happening, why, and who did it.

Hmm I'm pretty sure I can come up with what this emotional pain does. Since I know for a fact Aisu will be getting infected with this whatever it is. I can't remember what we called it.

I was thinking emotional pain as in thoughts that either make them feel bad about themselves or for certain reasons just really upset them...things they've been secretly dreading now appear to be real. Maybe in a dream, or even in a daydream or a vision sort of thing. Like, say one character is completely in love with his girlfriend, but he's paranoid that she's cheating on him with his worst enemy...so he would have a dream, or nightmare, of said girlfriend kissing said enemy. Just as an example. It could involve family, friends, lovers, society, anything. Things that would torture them internally.
The Order's actions are something we're gonna all have to figure out. It's tough right now because we don't have an organized Order yet, while the DE's are all set and ready to move on with their plans. Our first priority right now is to just wait for muggleborns to start feeling the affects, and then TELL people about it, so the Order has a reason to come together. Then our more prominent Order characters like James will start talking with his friends, and one of them comes up with the idea that they need to form the Order within the school and figure this out.
I think it should be up to our characters, not us, to figure out the Order's actions xD At their first meeting, all the characters should brainstorm together what they're gonna do about it, and we'll all decide. Roleplaying isn't the same if we plan out everything first, especially if it's stuff our characters can figure out for themselves xD

Mens Ingero.
Latin, mind infliction. That's the name of the curse thing.
Yes/no?
Anyways, I guess I'll begin scribbling out the process within the next couple of weeks. When do you think the neoDEs would be able to do the ritual thingy?
And, are those four the only people to witness? Would any other neoDE supporters/members know? E.g. Messrs Rosier, Messrs Malfoy, Connors, etc?
What I mean is, what exactly is their role in the plot?

Post by Jennie on Nov 6, 2010 22:52:49 GMT -5
Sounds good. Very incantaton-y, or whatever xD
And I thought we weren't doing the actual ritual thingy, because it was too...not Hogwarts-y and complicated and weird?
And I think those 4 should be the only ones to witness, just because it's all serious and such. But we'll definitely get the others involved in the plot somehow, right now the DE's are just keeping to themselves but they'll start "recruiting" and whatever asap.
By the way, this is something I've always wondered Cyn xD neoDE's? Like, why do you call them that? I'm so confused xD

xD That was just the name of the curse. Like, the title of the page that they look at. Doesn't matter, they can say that too.
The process won't actually be roleplayed, I don't think. It's just that during the second period for the neoDEs (AARD) they learn/ask about runes and rituals and stuff.
So the other's are just recruiting, and we're trying to find a bigger subplot for them? (Why the heck is this on the OotP Plot thread? xDDD)
I say neoDEs because the students aren't the real Death Eaters, they are the next-gen of them. Err, the new ones.
And 'neo' is 'new' in some language I forgot. xD So yeah, neoDEs.

...epic late reply...ANYWAY!!! Maybe the effects of the curse...ritual...whatever could gradually get worse? Like, maybe a character could start having nightmares then begin hearing things when they're awake then seeing things and it just gets worse for them from there? Just an idea...feel free to disregard it if you don't like it.
